Reviews - What Our Guests Say
We’re lucky to welcome so many lovely people through our doors — hikers, runners, bikers, and everyone in between. It always makes our day to read what guests have to say after their stay at Lodge Dinorwig.
EXCELLENT Based on 375 reviews Posted on Google Sara SteckerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I stayed at the hostel just for one single night and I must say, that was enough to convince me to come back next year - for an extended stay! I got my bus schedules mixed up unfortunately on arrival, but you can actually easily get to the hostel by using the Sherpa bus S3 which stops just infront of the hostel doors and runs hourly (please mind that Sherpa buses run the whole area of Snowdonia and will be your best friend getting around, but they are not included in any of the bus passes such as the Rovers sold by TfW - a day ticket only costs 5,50 pounds). As many, probably, I had planned to hike up Snowdon that day, but the weather - and arrival time - were not on my side. Sonni gave me all the check-in information and let me drop off my backpack early without any issue. She also explained a great round from the hostel, through the quarries, and around the two lakes, taking in breathtaking view of the valley - maybe even better then form Snowdon's cloudy peak. I also witnessed her counseling other guests for their next hikes (bus routes, best hikes depending on their abilities and weather conditions). In 30 min you are down in Llanberis, following the Slate Trail down from the hostel to the lake. Dinner and a lunch package can be booked in addition to your stay. I did not have dinner, but from what I saw it looked delicious! Breakfats comes with a continental choice (available as soon as you need it if you let Sonni know in advance) and also cooked breakfast served at 8.30. For my lunch package (7,50 pounds) I chose the vegetarian option with a coronation chickpea sandwich, a bag of crisps, an apple and dark chocolate peanut butter flapjack - the latter I shared with a fellow guest when hiking along the coast of Holyhead and offered all the energy needed to fight the coastal winds. The bathrooms are spacious and clean, the showers have shelves ouside so that you can change in there without getting wet. You can also hire a towel, buy a toothbrush. Rooming is one room for all guests, with modern and comfortable bunk beds. The rooming situation is less spacious than the rest of the hostel (which included also a large lounging area where you can both stay on your own or have a nice chat with fellow guests) and you really should not have any problems sharing a tight space with another 10 people or so. Curtains provide privacy and the bunks are quite wide. Even though it was brief, I will not forget my experience here and meeting the staff, and alsosome of my fellow guests - one with whom I hiked the Anlgesey coast the next day. You will never know whom you meet on your holiday!Posted on Google Georgina harrisTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This was my first time staying in a hostel and the bar has been set so high! Sonni is such a welcoming host - always so calm and friendly - and made this feel like a far more personal experience rather than a high traffic hostel (which it is far from given the max capacity of 14!). The breakfast was incredible (great options for veggies/vegans) and batista quality coffee each morning was much appreciated. The facilities were clean and functional - nothing to be worried about if you're like me and used to staying in a hotel/airbnb with your own space/bathroom! The location also cannot be faulted and the free car park is super handy. Absolutely would recommend!Posted on Google Cressy LiepmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I stayed as part of a hiking group at Dinorwig Hostel for three nights and could not recommend highly enough! The lodge is so clean, cosy and has the best bed set up so you get a fantastic night sleep. A massive thank you to Sonni for being the best host, being so attentive and making copious amounts of coffee before our big days out on the mountain. The breakfast was fantastic, catering to lots of different dietary requirements. With a large comfy communal area to relax in in the evening it felt like home! Thanks again xPosted on Google Lucy LismoreTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have used Lodge Dinorwig more times than I can count now as a base to run trips for my business both as exclusive use and booking individual beds and every single time has been just incredible. Sonni and Simon are always so friendly and extremely helpful. The hostel itself is always homely and spotless with plenty of parking and an amazing view. There is plenty of storage throughout and I love that the beds have individual plug sockets, lights and curtains for privacy. I always love coming here and am already looking forward to coming back in a few weeks!Posted on Google Catherine FlackTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Booked one night here as it was both my first time in a hostel and my first time solo, and ended up adding another night! Sonni was so welcoming, helpful and friendly and the dinner and cooked breakfast were delicious. Location wise for me was perfect as I wanted to explore the quarry and it was about a 40min walk into Llanberis following the slate trail, and in the evenings I was more than happy to sit and chill in the lounge. The lounge was comfy and well thought out, bathroom was spotless with good showers and the bunks which I was most nervous about felt really cosy and private! Would definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone :)Posted on Google John RobertsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Simon and Sonni were amazing hosts—I felt so welcomed from the moment I arrived. The facilities were impeccably clean and had everything you could need. It was my first time staying in a hostel, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I felt really comfortable throughout. Simon’s food was excellent and exactly what I needed after a long run. A great experience overall—I’ll definitely be back!Posted on Google Bogdan OpreaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a beautiful hostel in a stunning location! This place was super clean, private and safe, with a warm, friendly atmosphere. The owners went out of their way to care for my individual requirements and the food was amazing. I can’t recommend this place highly enough and will definitely be going back. You're really close to disused Dinorwig Quarry, which is really amazing to visit, with lots of history and also really close to mountain walks eg Elidir Fawr, Foel-goch. Fab views.Posted on Tripadvisor Hannah LVerified A lovely place to stay A gorgeous 14 bed hostel near Llanberis. Impeccably clean and great facilities including drying space and parking. Beds are really comfy. Shower facilities really clean. Great cooked food. Friendly welcome and very well looked after by the staff. Good location for Snowdonia. Lots of local hikes in close proximity to Hostel. We will be back again 😊Posted on Tripadvisor vickychildsVerified Above and beyond. Fantastic Absolutely fantastic hostel and hosts. Above and beyond! We had a series of catastrophic car issues en route (honestly, you would not believe the misfortune). They empathised and accommodated all the way, even bringing our pre-booked dinner to where we waited on the side of the road a few miles away as we had a 6hr wait. Absolute legends. Their attitudes made such a difference to an otherwise incredibly stressy experience. I will let everyone know of this gem of a place with its quirky interior, clean and well equipped set up, great food, delightful hosts and barista coffee!Posted on Tripadvisor KuduDevonVerified Brilliant hostel super comfortable and super organised Top hostel top coms top food, from start to finish, initial enquiry, booking, welcome, food, service, advice all amazing. Cupboard style beds Brilliant comfortable private and cosy, showers excellent, common room fab with games and books. Thanks again Sonni, you and Simon did a great job 😀Posted on Tripadvisor Julia SVerified An absolute delight! I’d never stayed in a hostel before and couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. Super clean and comfortable with great quality food and coffee. Sonni was an excellent host being friendly and knowledgeable. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this as the perfect spot to explore the glorious area.Posted on Tripadvisor Pioneer09657928607Verified A great experience! Friendly hosts, good atmosphere, good food Great communication from a friendly and responsive host. Sonni went out of her way to accomodate my (often last minute) changes of plans because of foul weather. The food was tasty, good portions and I just loved the barista coffee in the morning. The bunks are furnished with curtains, a small ledge to put your phone etc. An electric outlet was also present in the bunk. Very practical! The bathroom and showers were very clean and spacious. The common living and dining room is cosy, roomy and a nice place to meet other guests. Thank you so much for a very nice stay Sonni! I'll be back ;)Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
