Snowdon is a popular goal for many hikers staying in our hostel.

Midweek is the best time to experience Snowdonia – quieter trails, fewer crowds and a more relaxed atmosphere.

There’s something special about Eryri midweek. The trails are yours. The car parks are empty. The summits feel a little more like yours to keep. If you’ve been meaning to get up here without the weekend crowds, this is your sign.

Lodge Dinorwig is a place that makes sense for solo travellers. With just 14 beds, it’s small enough that you’ll actually get to know the people you’re sharing it with. You’ll have good company if you want it, a proper meal waiting when you get back, and a base that feels genuinely at home in this landscape. We’re small, we’re friendly, and we genuinely love the kind of people who come here to explore Eryri.

Who comes to stay?

We see the same kinds of people coming through our doors, and we mean that as a compliment.

  • Solo travellers who want somewhere comfortable and sociable without having to pay for a room to themselves. You’ll find good conversation if you’re up for it, and no pressure if you’re not.
  • Mountain Leader candidates working through their training days and clocking up QMDs in the area. The schedule is full-on, and we make sure you can eat well and sleep well so you can get out the door early feeling human.
  • Climbers and course participants who need a base close to the rock. We’re just a mile from Dinorwig Quarry, one of the most popular climbing destinations in North Wales. You couldn’t get much closer without sleeping on the slate.
  • Trail runners and hikers who’ve figured out that midweek in Eryri is just better. Quieter paths, more space, and a proper meal waiting at the end of it.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Lodge Dinorwig. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and cosy, and the food was good - all at a fair price. I will definitely book a stay there again on my next visit to the area.

Like a hostel with a bit more luxury! The beds were nice and private with the curtain and a personal lamp in each bed. Small with only one room so no fight for showers or toilets. Everything was very clean. Breakfast was amazing! The lounge/dining area is large and lovely if you need a bit of chill time.

This was my favorite stay of my entire trip in the UK. Great hosts, great food, comfortable beds, very welcoming atmosphere set up nicely to socialize, and beautiful historic location.
