One of the questions we get most often is: can I climb Snowdon without a car? The answer is absolutely yes, and this is the route we recommend to guests who want to see more than one side of the mountain.<\/p>\n

Take the S3 Sherpa bus from Lodge Dinorwig to the bottom of the Rhyd Ddu path, climb to the summit, then descend either via Llanberis (with a pub stop) or the Pyg or Miners’ Track to Pen-y-Pass, where you catch the bus back. The Rhyd Ddu path is one of the quieter routes up Snowdon. You won’t be fighting through crowds, and the views across the Nantlle Valley are stunning. It’s a gentle start that builds gradually, so you warm into the climb rather than hitting steep ground straight away.<\/p>\n

The top section meets the Watkins path and gets more exposed with fantastic views, so if you want something a little more adventurous than going up and down the same way, this ticks the box. You’re walking a journey across the mountain rather than retracing your steps.<\/p>\n

From the top, you have options.\u00a0If you descend via Llanberis, you’ll have sweeping views back down the valley. It’s a long descent but straightforward, and you can stop for a drink in the village before the walk back up to us.<\/p>\n

If you take the Pyg or Miners’ Track down to Pen-y-Pass, you’re adding variety. The Pyg Track is rockier and more direct, while the Miners’ Track takes you past beautiful lakes. One of the best things about staying at Lodge Dinorwig is the Sherpa bus network. The service connects all the main Snowdon routes, so you can adventure out without a car and skip the stress of finding parking (which can be a nightmare in peak season). It’s really affordable too, and means you can plan routes that don’t involve retracing your steps or shuttling cars between trailheads.<\/p>\n

The S3 stops right outside our front door and runs over to the other side of the mountain, dropping you at the Ranger Path or Rhyd Ddu path. This is the route we suggest to guests who want a bit more adventure without needing a car. You’re not just ticking off the summit. You’re walking across the mountain, seeing the quiet Nantlle side, the exposed ridge near the top, and either the classic Llanberis descent or the rugged Pyg and Miners’ Tracks.<\/p>\n
